Families from across Qatar took the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic day of free entertainment at the 6th Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day on Friday, supported by Flagship Sponsor Maersk Oil and Leadership Sponsor Commercial bank Qatar.
Organised by Qatar’s leading education and humanitarian NGO Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2013 at the Museum of Islamic Art Park delivered eight hours of exciting activities for the whole family.
The fun started at 2 p.m. as the Wheels ‘n’ Heels Action Zones burst into life with lots of activities going on around the Museum of Islamic Art Park, with Qtel supporting ROTA’s educational and community projects in Qatar and across Asia via a magnificent donation of QR150,000.
Children loved the Kidz Zone with its interactive arts space; skills based competitions, bouncy castle, stilt walkers, sports and fitness activities, and much, much more. The Wheels ‘n’ Heels Stage hosted two Children’s Sing Along shows by Al Jazeera and Baraem MC, while popular children's entertainer Baba Langa ensured youngsters enjoyed a thrilling Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day.
"It’s a real thrill for ROTA to be hosting Qatar’s largest annual community event of the year,” says ROTA Executive Director Mr. Essa Al Mannai. “It was great to see adults and children of all nationalities enjoying Wheels ‘n’ Heels and discovering how exercise and living a healthy lifestyle can be such great fun.”
Music fans flocked to the Wheels ‘n’ Heels Stage to enjoy performances by Egyptian superstar Hamza Namira, Kuwait’s Bashar Al-Shatti and Iraqi singer Rahma Riyad, before the Doha Jazz Band brought the entertainment to a fabulous finale. Bahraini comedians Ali Al-Ghurair and Khalil Al-Rohaithi had all the family laughing out loud with their hilarious performance.
Sports fans got to meet their sporting heroes as Al Sadd Sports Club footballers Raul Gonzales, Al Hussein Amuta, Nadir Belhadj, Wissam Rizk and Mesaad Alhamad, bike racer Mishal Al-Naami and rally driver Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari joined the Wheels ‘n’ Heels crowds.
Being involved in the action is all part of the Wheels ‘n’ Heels experience and hundreds grasped the opportunity to tackle the Wheels n Heels Circuit by jogging, skateboarding, walking and cycling round the Museum of Islamic Art Park to raise funds for ROTA’s local and international education projects. Special thanks go to Qtel for their generous decision to offer free bicycle rents.
Adrenaline junkies enjoyed the BMX Bike Show, budding Lionel Messi’s and Cristiano Ronaldo’s loved the Football Free Stylers showing off their amazing soccer skills, while Aspire Academy and ‘Girls On The Go’ took part in children’s bike training and fitness activities.
Bringing art to life was renowned Colombian artist Jose Arias, whose Instant Art Show amazed the crowd, while two fabulous Brazilian Capoeira displays combined music, skills, dance and acrobatics to create a martial arts spectacular.
Dance fans loved Saman, one of the most popular dances in Indonesia, as the Al Khor International School performed the ‘dance of a thousand hands’.
Everyone looking to live a safer lifestyle checked out the Health & Active Zone where Civil Defense volunteers were teaching the importance of traffic rules and safety. Action on Diabetes representatives provided free health advice and checks while one of the world’s pre-eminent heart surgeons, while the Childhood Cultural Centre provided books, arts and crafts materials to Wheels ‘n’Heels 2013.
Wheels’n’Heels this year was visited by remarkable national and international celebrities as Al Jazeera news presenters Khadija bin Qonah, and Laila Al Shaihily joined ROTA, in addition to the Qatari Bike racer Mishal Al-Naami, Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari Qatari Rally Racer, Qatari Actor Hamad Abdul Redha , and Tayseer Abdulla witer and producer
Fitness and nutrition experts armed with healthy, fresh food were on hand to share information about cultivating a lifestyle for optimum health in the Nutrition Zone. Reach Out To Asia offered everyone the opportunity to learn more about its educational and community projects that have helped 1.5 million children and adults across Asia during presentations from ROTA National Program by the ROTA Youth and ROTA Volunteers.
Ensuring everyone knew exactly what was happening throughout the eight-hour spectacular were Wheels ‘n’ Heels MCs Ibrahim Al Beshri (Al Jazeera Children’s Channel) and Eman Al Mograbi (Baraem Children’s Channel).
“It was great to once again welcome the families of Qatar for a day of fun at Wheels ‘n’ Heels,” added a pleased Essa Al Mannai. “Thousands of people came along to enjoy all the entertainment and, with the help of sponsors Maersk Oil, Commercialbank Qatar and Qatar Telecom, helped ROTA make this the best ever Wheels ‘n’ Heels!”
