Construction of a Vocational School in Bayat, Klaten Region - SMKN1 ROTA Bayat |
ROTA and its local partner Titian Foundation have rebuilt the school buildings using earthquake resistant specifications. Additionally, a state-of-the-art vocational school, SMKN 1 ROTA Bayat School, has been constructed as a Center of Excellence for teaching ceramics and batik, the traditional technique where melted wax is used to draw on cloth and dyed in a variety of colors.

Promotion of the Kampot Traditional Music and Dance School for Orphaned and Disabled children, Khmer Cultural Development Institute (KCDI) |
The Kampot Traditional Music School, founded in 1994, provides cultural education, focusing on Khmer traditional music and dance and vocational training to approximately 30 underprivileged and socially vulnerable children as well as 170 children from the local community in the town of Kampot in Kampot Province. | |

Cambodia, a culturally-rich and diverse country in southeastern Asia, is still recovering from the repercussions of the 20 years of Khmer Rouge rule, a dark time in the country’s history that all but drained Cambodia’s cultural heritage. Along with its partners, ROTA focused on cultural and educational development programs to help rebuild the country’s heritage, and give children hope for their futures. | |

The project focuses on improving access of female students residing in seven villages to intermediate education and reducing the number of dropouts by at least 50%. Through creative activities and access to information technologies and training in essential skills, the project aims to help the girls realize their true potential and give them hope for a better future. | |

| Beirut19 Writing Competition | |
The Beirut19 writing competition offered the opportunity for young Arabs who reside in Qatar to participate in a writing competition involving Arab youth from 11 countries. The Beirut19 philosophy was inspired by Beirut39 which aims to encourage debating of important issues between young Arab writers, as well as to allow them to share and cultivate their writing talents. | |

Disaster preparedness and Food Needs for Disadvantaged Communities in Cox’s Bazar |
The Ramadan program covered youth who were not only socially, financially, economically and culturally disadvantaged and vulnerable due to poverty, but also live in an area severely affected by natural catastrophes. The beneficiaries of the project were youth aged from 14 to 25, living in the Upazilla of Teknaf, one of the most vulnerable areas of Bangladesh. The overall aim of this project was to provide iftar and sahur to 120 poor youth in ten villages and at the same time provide training on basic disaster preparedness. The program ran from in Ramadan 2009, and resulted in the increased awareness of disaster risk reduction and preparedness in affected communities. | |
| Peer Education in Disaster Risk Reduction | |
Nepal is one of the most geographically and culturally diverse countries in Asia. Becoming a republic in 2006, the country has made considerable progress over the last few years towards reducing poverty; however, it is still one of the poorest countries in the region. ROTA worked in close cooperation with its partner, Mercy Corps, to incorporate disaster risk resilient features in schools, raise disaster preparedness awareness amongst children, and implement school-based disaster risk reduction activities. | |
