HOW WE HELP

Pakistan Relief Flights

On October 8, 2005, a powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck the India-Pakistan border causing extensive damage in Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. Post-disaster reports indicate more than 90,000 people were killed and approximately 3.3 million people were left injured or homeless. Due to the destruction of more than 1,000 hospitals, the remote and rugged landscape of the destruction zone and the eminent approach of the harsh Himalayan winter, the need for decisive action and aid was tremendous.

ROTA- through the Act ROTAsia program - joined many other members of the international community in providing immediate assistance to quake victims by sending two relief flights carrying much-needed aid and supplies in December 2005. Her Excellency Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani demonstrated her personal commitment to ROTA and highlighted the priority being given to providing relief for victims by personally delivering much needed blankets, sleeping bags, tents and other emergency supplies to people in the worst-hit areas before winter truly set in and left survivors even more vulnerable.
