ROTA ACHIEVEMENTS

Pakistan Volunteer Trip

A critical component of Reach Out To Asia's (ROTA) approach to educational development is volunteerism. And ROTA places particular emphasis on encouraging youth involvement in community causes, empowering young people of today to build the skills, knowledge and confidence to become the leaders of tomorrow.

In keeping with its commitment to youth volunteerism, ROTA organized its first volunteer trip to Pakistan in April 2006. The journey saw a total of 65 students from seven different schools in Qatar share their knowledge with earthquake-affected school children in the Kashmir region of Pakistan. Educational activities involved health (first aid), sports, arts and crafts, music, team building and storytelling in the Urdu language.

Students were selected from a number of volunteers from the community in Qatar and engaged in a series of planning and training activities in preparation for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to support cohorts in Pakistan. The students participated in a two-day workshop, where volunteers received orientation on the type of voluntary work and some information on Pakistan. Volunteers also received psychological preparation to interact with people and learned how to deal with harsh conditions.

Pakistan Volunteer Trip

ROTA volunteers in Pakistan helped to make a real difference on the ground, as well as developing their own skills and experience.
